New Calm Face Necklaces

 🌑🌙☀️ Way back in the 90s, I cast an image from the centrepiece of a 1960s vintage astrology board game (???). It was originally a sun, but in round pendant size (without the large sun rays) it more resembles a calm moon face, although I still see it as both or either.

I use to make ceramic sun moon face necklaces. Fun and easy. I wasn't sure that I could swing it with glass but after months of tests and trials and many casts and firings, I can now make a ready to wear sun-moon-face necklace.💫

And so now I am listing several of the successful one of a kind tests and samples. Some of these I might be lucky enough to be able to make again, but some of them were a moment in time and I may have mislaid my notes;)

Faceted 💎‎Gem‎💎 Statement Pendants

Step one in my latest glass casting project. I’m sure there are a ton better materials to use than clay but I started working glass via pottery making and am happy for any opportunity to work with it.

Next to the pottery wheel, my favourite clay activity is carving away at leather hard clay which solid but not yet dry. In this case, I’m just cleaning off some excess clay from the outside. ⁠

This part is also fun. I’ve added some of my never ending supply of glass scrap into the little clay ‘boats’. This is not precision work. I’ll end up with some rough looking chunks of glass to work with. ⁠

The cast recycled glass pieces are out of the kiln and ready to sand or grind into shape. 🔷🔶🔷⁠

My first mini batch of 💎gems💎. The grinding and shaping is definitely the hardest part but it's fun to see them take shape, especially with each one being one-of-a-kind.

Lightly faceted frosted glass on a long chain, each pendant is about 1 1/2 inches long. Now listed in my one-of-a-kind jewellery section. 

Sun? Moon? Take your pick!

It’s a work day bonus when I can open the kiln and remove the molds to find these calming paper faces looking up at me. 🌞

I've brought back a classic image from back when I was making ceramic jewellery. I'm working to incorporate this calm face image into a glass pendant. Harder than I expected but a fun process nonetheless. 

Instead of making ceramic faces as pendants, I made ceramic stamps from the negative image of the face to press the glass in the kiln. 

The first mini-batch. I have to learn how to photograph them in order to better capture the face detail!
